1992 Carver 43' Aft Cabin Motor Yacht |

We own a 1992 Carver 43' Aft Cabin Motor Yacht. We use the boat as much
as we can and do a lot of anchoring just to relax and enjoy the
Columbia River.
Two summers ago we installed new batteries
throughout. Last month we took a long weekend and spent 3 nights
anchored out. As the weekend went by the batteries ran down and had to
be charged up. We eventually shut down the ice maker, then the
refrigerator on the aft deck, then we turned up the thermostat on the
refrigerator in the galley just to conserve energy. It got to the point
where we were running the generator every 5 hours to recharge the
batteries. They were so weak the CO alarms would sound indicating they
were low on power!
I had read an article about Battery Equaliser
so we ordered enough to install in all 11 batteries. The following
weekend I poured it in per the directions, 2 ounces per wet cell. By
the way, the syringe you provide makes the job very easy, thanks.
Then I turned on the battery charger's equalizer stage and let it run until it shut off about 4.5 hours later.
This
last weekend we took off with some friends for a 190 mile cruise. We
stopped overnight on the first leg of the trip. The next morning (about
12 hours after we disconnected from the dock's power source) I thought
about the batteries and immediately looked at the inverter's gauge, the
battery level was the same as when we disconnected the night before.
The icemaker, both refrigerators, and all the lights and accessories
were used just as if we had been connected to the dock's power supply
all night.
As the weekend progressed I kept looking at the
gauge, the batteries just stayed at the same level. Over the weekend we
spent much time disconnected and experienced no problems with
electricity. What a great feeling not to be awakened in the middle of
the night by the CO low power alarm! The gauge has never maintained the
same level, even when the batteries were brand new. Battery Equaliser
does what it promises to do, it's a great product.
